Tempo Map Metronome
Precision Practice for Complex Scores

Metronome Map is a tempo‑map practice tool for music with frequent meter and tempo changes, common in contemporary repertoire and many older rhythmic systems where the “beat” is context-dependent. It lets you define bar blocks, choose the base beat freely, and loop difficult passages until they feel natural.

What this is

Metronome Map is a browser-based metronome built around a tempo map: you enter a sequence of bar blocks (each with its own meter, tempo, and base-beat unit), and the click follows that structure exactly. Groupings (e.g., 7/8 as 2+2+3) can shape accents so the metronome reinforces musical hierarchy rather than only counting.

Why

In repertoire where transitions are the hard part, practicing with a single, static metronome often hides the real problem: re-orienting the pulse at each change. Metronome Map makes those changes explicit, repeatable, and loopable—so you can focus on continuity, articulation, and timing across the seam.

Features

  • Tempo-map blocks: Bars, time signature, base beat, BPM, optional grouping, optional rehearsal labels.

  • Loop practice: Loop any bar range (including across changes), set loop A/B, shift, expand, and shrink quickly.

  • Clear readout: Current bar/beat plus the active meter and tempo for reliable orientation.

  • Count-in and re-entry: Count-in before starting; optional pre-roll feel for loop restarts.

  • Table + JSON workflow: Fast table editing plus JSON import/export for saving, sharing, and archiving.

How to use

  1. Enter your structure in the Table (add blocks; set Bars, Time Sig, Unit, BPM).

  2. Add Grouping when needed (e.g., 2+2+3) so accents match the felt meter.

  3. Press Play, then set a loop with Start/End bars or the [A]/[B] buttons.

  4. Save for later, or export JSON to share with students and collaborators.
