Eligibility & Guidelines
Who Can Apply: Open to composers and sound artists worldwide. There are no restrictions on age, nationality, or background.
Instrumentation: Works for any instrumentation, electronics, or mixed media are accepted. There are no limitations on ensemble size or format.
Duration: Submissions should be up to 13 minutes in length. Shorter works are equally encouraged.
Categories: Applicants may submit works in contemporary, avant-garde, experimental, traditional, heritage-rooted, or cross-genre categories. Each category will be evaluated by specialized jury teams to ensure fair and informed review.
Conceptual Statement: In addition to selecting a category, applicants are asked to articulate how their work speaks to the ethos of Phantomnesis. Submissions should include a short statement explaining how the piece engages with the ideas of the forgotten, the near-forgotten, and the reimagined — whether by drawing on neglected musical systems, regional practices, extinct gestures, or overlooked aesthetic pathways. This statement helps situate the work within the curatorial framework of the series and ensures that each contribution resonates with its philosophical intent: bringing what risks being lost into the resonance of today’s listening.
Recording Quality: Only professionally recorded works will be considered. Submissions must be production-ready, with high-quality audio (WAV or high-bitrate MP3).
