We are honored to present this collaboration between Ghasem Rahimzadeh and Vahid Asadollahi, published by CambiataArt Records.

In this album, the artists delve into the Shushtar maqam, exploring its delicate emotional landscape through a collection of authentic Azerbaijani Rengs. Their approach combines artistic interpretation with careful research, highlighting the deep connections between Iranian and Azerbaijani musical traditions and preserving the authentic character of these centuries-old forms.

Through the expressive voice of the Iranian tar and the vibrant pulse of dayereh and naqareh, Azarnava Vol. II brings the Shushtar maqam to life: reflective, rhythmic, and profoundly human.

Listen below and experience this journey through the Shushtar maqam, where the Iranian tar and rhythmic dayereh and naqareh bring the spirit of Azerbaijani Rengs to life.

Rengs of Azerbaijan: Shushtar by Ghasem Rahimzadeh follows Azarnava Vol. I (Bayat-e Shiraz) as part of a rare and authentic collection of Azerbaijani Rengs—a traditional dance form deeply rooted in Iranian and Azerbaijani musical heritage. This album focuses on the Shushtar maqam, exploring its tender melodic contours, expressive ornaments, and rhythmic depth.

The pieces were drawn from performances by celebrated Azerbaijani masters—virtuosos of the garmon, tar, and kamancheh, and reimagined on the Iranian tar for the first time. Enriched by the dayereh and naqareh accompaniment of Vahid Asadollahi, the recording creates an intimate dialogue between tradition and reinterpretation.

Azarnava Vol. II continues the artistic mission of preserving and presenting Azerbaijani Rengs according to their individual maqams, performed on the Iranian tar in a uniquely expressive form.
