Farzad Abbasi

Persian & Kermanshah Traditional Musician CambiataArt Records Artist

Tanbur, Setar, Tar & Oud Performer | Educator & Radif Scholar

Farzad Abbasi (b. 1974, Kermanshah, Iran) is a distinguished musician, educator, and researcher devoted to the preservation and renewal of Persian classical music. He holds a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in management, and has built a decades-long practice that bridges rigorous traditional study with contemporary interpretation.

Abbasi began his musical training in 1980 with the tanbur and later added the setar, tar, and oud. He completed advanced Radif studies under eminent masters including Houshang Zarif, Mohammad Reza Lotfi, and Mohsen Nafar, and his work is rooted in that lineage while remaining inquisitive and forward-looking.

An active performer and teacher, Abbasi combines concert work, pedagogy, and research to sustain Iran’s musical heritage and introduce its expressive vocabularies to new audiences. His playing is noted for its deep command of traditional forms, attentive phrasing, and a subtle, modern sensibility that honors the Radif without constraint.

CambiataArt Records proudly presents Melodies of Motherland by Farzad Abbasi, a refined work that bridges the deep-rooted traditions of Kermanshah and the broader landscape of Persian classical music. The album highlights Abbasi’s mastery of the Tar, revealing both his scholarly command of Radif and his personal interpretation of regional melodic heritage.

Created in collaboration with Peyman Sahihi, Homayoun Nasiri, and Hossein Rezaeenia, this project stands as a vivid testament to collective musicianship and the shared spirit of preserving and reimagining Iran’s musical traditions through contemporary artistry.
